Challenge:

This family home no longer met the needs of an active household with teenagers. The kitchen felt disconnected from the surrounding spaces, and the island, squeezed into the layout, created challenges for both function and traffic flow between the kitchen and adjoining dining areas. Limited natural light made the space feel enclosed, while the placement of the dishwasher opposite the cooktop caused congestion whenever either was in use. The outdated fireplace, heavily faux-finished walls, traditional stairs, and railings, added to the sense that the home no longer fit the family’s lifestyle.

Solution:

To bring new life to the space, the kitchen was reimagined for better efficiency and storage. The island was removed in favor of a peninsula, greatly improving movement throughout. An in-ceiling exhaust fan was installed to maintain ventilation without blocking natural light. A fresh coat of paint brightened the home, while the fireplace was updated to reflect the homeowners’ style. Wide plank wood flooring added warmth and texture, complemented by carefully chosen light fixtures. The result is a home that feels fresh, open, and perfectly suited to the family’s evolving needs.
