I was looking for a high quality one stop shop for my extensive home remodel in Napa, CA. Being aware of the difficulties coordinating a design team and drawings with the actual builder, I wanted someone who could handle both seamlessly. JS Design Build was that company. I initially visited their website, which is elegantly designed and left a strong impression upon me with the work they have done. Then I reached out to Judy Schindler (the JS in the name!) and she promptly called me back. Our initial conversation was great, I could tell she knew how to both design the home I wanted and then build it. She was also very honest about the timeline from design to build, as well as the costs. She let me know right away what I was getting myself into, no surprises! The design phase was great. Judy is an excellent communicator and she knows how to extract the answers she needs out of you, a rare talent! Once the design was set, we moved in to the build phase. JS Design Build took care of everything including permits. The fact that they were the designer and builder allowed them to handle things quickly in the field as they popped up. When you demo an older home, surprises can pop up which then lead to design changes. This was the reason I wanted a design build firm to do my project. The communication was great throughout the entire process. Before construction began, Judy personally visited my neighbors and left them her contact info. My neighbors told me how nice she was and gave them all her number to call if there were any issues at all during the construction phase. Most contractors try to hide from your neighbors so that you can field the complaints instead of them. The construction phase went by as scheduled, with a lot of great communication and photos being sent to us. More importantly, JS Design Build made the process fun and enjoyable. Aside from her great eye for design, Judy has a charisma about her that puts you at ease and you just know that you are in great hands. Her company and all their employees are very professional and talented. The experience was first class. I hope I can buy another home one day just so I can have Judy re-design it.
Judy completed a bathroom and bedroom remodel that included several ADA compliant items to assist us. Her design was both beautiful and functional. Her team was very professional, responsive and easy to work with. We are delighted with the results and highly recommend Judy and her team for design and construction.
I highly recommend Judy and her team. She did a tremendous job remodeling the bathrooms in our Napa County home. She took us from a one full, one half bath to two fulls and one half bath - remodeling two bathrooms and adding a half. Throughout the process Judy was an incredible communicator. We first met at the house where we talked through our goals, style and potential design ideas. She provided quotes and - once agreed on a scope - managed much of the process digitally, making the process very seamless for us. Judy took in our Pinterest design ideas and used them to help in her designs. When we first had concerns with code compliance, Judy took the time to visit the County, getting written assurance that the plans would pass code. I trusted Judy so much that over the three month process we relied solely on her pictures and email updates to keep apprised throughout the process. While there were some hiccups along the way - everything from a former builder using OJ boxes for ducting to surprise rot - Judy kept up the proactive communication and helped us along the way. The end result is incredible, and Judy's attention to detail shines through. Everything from perfectly aligned subway tile to little things like motion sensitive lights help to make our bathrooms a space to admire. I will definitely use Judy and team for our next remodel.
I can't recommend Judy and her team enough. Our project was a second home, with a restricted budget. She has been fun to work with, with a positive, problem-solving attitude, lots of great ideas, and comfort with our choices when they differed from her suggestions. She listened carefully, and really used our tastes in the design. Of her many great qualities, I'd say that her design eye, problem-shoving ability, and the superb craftsmen she employs are high points-as well as being great fun to work with. She and her team were organized, on-time and on-budget. The construction and finish work are exquisite. Her and her team's finest moment occurred at the outset, though, when a water main was discovered in a location completely different than was indicated in the blueprints. I despaired, it looked like the linchpin of the remodel was impossible, but she just said "don't worry, we'll figure this out", and called me back within an hour with the solution. She appreciates her team, too-very important. Every time I walk into our gorgeous home, I thank Judy. You should see what she did for us!
Judy and her team remodeled the bonus room in our home and did a fabulous job. They are a pleasure to work with, and are detail-oriented. We are extremely pleased with the results, and it has changed the way we live in our home. We would like to hire her company again to redesign a different part of our home!
Up front we spent a fair amount of time finalizing design decisions, which secured expectations on both sides, so that once the project started, we never had disagreements, and J&S was able to stay on schedule even when I was absent. They excel at communications, which I think is rare in the industry, and every employee was professional and a pro in their area of expertise. I always had confidence we would finish on time and on budget, and we did. And I love the finished product and know they will continue to stand behind their workmanship.
