Challenge:

Nestled in Napa’s coveted historic district, this 1888 home radiates timeless charm. However, its small, enclosed 1980s kitchen and compartmentalized layout restricted flow, limiting access to the lush back garden. For a family that loves cooking and entertaining, the segmented spaces disrupted gatherings and movement.

Solution:

By introducing steel structural supports, we relocated the kitchen to a central position, opening up the main living areas and creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. The dining room remains an intimate daily retreat, while a charming mudroom with a Dutch door adds both function and character. A cleverly integrated bar and laundry space enhances convenience, while the relocated downstairs bath was designed to feel original to the home. Thoughtful period details—antique lighting, vintage-inspired plumbing fixtures, and custom cabinetry—honor the home’s historic roots. The result is a gracious and engaging space where past and present blend effortlessly
